OUR STORY

Upcycle Modern was founded in 2024 by Michael Jacoby - an artist and trained upholsterer - who has been passionate about modernism and design for more than 25 years. During that time, he noticed that too often, quality, thoughtfully-designed furniture was languishing in antique shops and at auctions. The increased costs and limited supply of skilled upholsterers alongside the proliferation of cheaply-made new furniture made custom redesign impractical or out-of-reach for most people.

Having worked off-and-on in upholstery and furniture repair since his teens and passionately scouring and collecting diamonds in the rough as a side hustle to film work, the opportunity for Upcycle Modern became clear. Make great design, premium and a sustainable home attainable for more people.
